SNACKS

‘It can be described as the backbone of Kozhikode Flavors’

This place is a paradise of different snacks. Traditional snacks are still popular among people. It was an ancient tradition here that the ‘Puthyapla feast’ (on marriage time) would have a mela of unique delicacies. It can be said that Kozhikode snacks are famous. Wherever these are available they will be seen by the crowd.

Chattippathiri

It is a traditional Malabar snack. In my words, it is the king of all snacks.

In my childhood, I saw it being cooked in copper pots of various sizes, using firewood for cooking. After cooking for a certain time, placing hot coals on the lid (similar to the method used for dum cooking) added a unique flavor and ensured even cooking. I think traditionally cooked dishes are much tastier. Nowadays, nonstick pots make it easier to cook. Perhaps in the past, Chatti Pathiri was cooked in clay pots (known as chatti in Malayalam), which gave the dish its name. This dessert is inevitable at weddings fiest and other similar occasions.
